Insider's Guide to DAVAODavao-a clever mix between urban and rural comfort. Here are snippets of Davao life from a local who enjoys the city’s pull of gravity.
Words: Karla Stefan Singson EAT Zabadani is a quaint “Islamic” restaurant along the busy street of Ponciano. May people describe Zabadani as such because of its Persian/Mediterranean theme. They offer a wide variety of Halal Mediterranean food, such as Chicken Kabsa, Kebabs and Bruschetta. What Zabadani is most famous for, however, is their layered coffee. Head to Zabadani for a complete tummy treat. They’ve got snacks and desserts, too. Zabadani on Urban Living (February 2011 Issue)It's eat, pray and love at ZabadaniMOVING from a small coffee shop to a bigger one, Zabadani Cafe took with it friends, great food, and faith.
A fusion of authentic Middle Eastern cuisine and western layered coffee preparation, with a great ambiance and service that makes customers come back with more friends, Zabadani Cafe have evolved into a much-loved coffee shop in the Davao City. Zabadani: Exploring Life's LayersWhat do you get when an idealistic young man becomes interested in the coffee business? “Layers, my friend,” so says Shrek, that infamous ogre in the movie of the same title.
Layers had seemingly played a great role in the life of Wadilkhaery W. Mutia, or simply Glen, in his past life. For one, Wadi has reverted to what every student should aspire for: becoming an entrepreneur read more>> Zabadani in LayersWE’VE been a long time visitor of Zabadani Coffee Shop when it was still a quaint little coffee shop along Rizal St. We used to meet up with a lot of people there—people from the art circle (digital artists, film makers, photographers, writers, etc.), old friends, new friends, work mates— and we end up spending a lot of time there not only because the place has such a unique interior design, but because the layered coffee is undoubtedly the best in town and the prices are great...

BlogsA Magic Carpet Ride By: Chuck AllieI remember looking for this place for the first time, it was a few months before Ramadhan last year. Another hole in the wall, we missed the simple signage and couldn’t find the place. It took us two rounds along Ponciano Street (since it’s a one-way street) to finally find it. It was a Friday, needless to say, it was CLOSED! (Friday is a day of prayer in Islam)
Shukran Zabadani Cafe - Mystic NymphI love Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern food more than Italian and French, mainly because of the challenging taste. Their unique cuisine names make food lovers go prying over them. They sound so interesting that you end up going crazy over them. My fondness for these kinds of cuisines all started with my sheer curiosity. I browse for different kinds of food in books, magazines and online journals. Just looking at them through photographs is totally not enough. Thanks to my friend, Jesse Pizzaro, for suggesting me this food joint I now consider as my favorite, Zabadani Cafe.
The New Zabadani Coffee ShopI’ve been a long time visitor of Zabadani Coffee Shop when it was still a quaint little coffee shop in Rizal. I used to meet up with a lot of people there--people from the art circle (digital artists, film makers, photographers, writers, etc.), old friends, new friends, work mates-- and we end up spending a lot of time there not only because the place has such a unique interior design, but because the layered coffee is undoubtedly the best in town and the prices are great for “budgetarians”.
Zabadani by Leah ValleZabadani means core of goodness. The restaurant’s full name is Zabadani Layered Coffee because it is famous for serving coffee in layers. But tonight, Kuya Faust opted for its tasty finger food.
Zabadani by SergeiIf there would be two things I missed in Mindanao, it would have to be air and food. When I got to Manila, my chest was heavy because of the pollution (until I eventually got used to it. Nasty.). Fruits do not taste as good here, unless you buy the really expensive ones or you get the rare finds!
Because I’m missing the motherland a bit, I scanned through my “Days in Mindanao” folder and saw my last date with my team as Editor in Chief of Himati. We went to Zabadani. Zabadani by RamboyI always loved eating out. Whether I’m with my wife, my family, friends or even just alone by myself, I always treasure the opportunity of savoring great food in great places just outside of my home. But because of my faith, I had to be extra choosy with the restaurants I go to. In earlier years, I was a fan of Turqoise, a small restaurant in SM that served Turkish food. But when it closed down late last year, I had to find another Halal restaurant where I can truly enjoy a pork-free atmosphere.
Enter Zabadani. ZabadaniI have a new fave place to get my fill of coffee and kebabs: Zabadani!Ok, lets get the "negatives" out on the table. If you bring a car, you would not appreciate that there isnt a parking space. If you smoke, you would not appreciate that there isnt a smoking area (but really, are there still places with smoking areas in the city?). If you do not smoke, or do not own a car, this is the perfect place for you. And even if you smoke or drove a car, the food and coffee is all worth it. Leave your car and cigarette packs, because you will not be looking for them for quite a while. The food, especially the drinks, will make you forget your name and everything else.

Zabadani Layered CoffeeshopIt is not always the posh and elegant coffee shop that wins the heart of the client. There are times when luxurious furnishings and elegant design cannot compete with the feeling of home.
That is what Zabadani Layered Coffeeshop is for me – Home. It is found at JP Rizal corner Bangoy (formerly Ponciano) Sts. It is owned by partners who are both young Muslim professionals. They have their own set of coffee concoctions. They learned to brew their coffee at Singapore. My multi-layered coffeeAfter several weeks of cajoling and reminders from Glen (aka Wadi), tonight I had my taste of the famous Zabadani's multi-layered coffee ...
Layered Coffee...Mga Chui gud yun na coffee experiences...
The other weekend was Mon's advanced birthday part-hae...i was in the mood for coffee...and since we were in Rizal, i told them about this layered coffee Jesse has been telling me about. I really forgot the name of the Place but i remembered it started with Z...Z something.. Zabadani (Layered Coffee)I came to know about a certain Zabadani place here in Davao City. I was very curious then what the name signifies. My friends from Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao were the major masterminds of the thought of visiting the place and guess what happened?
Here, for the first time in my life I tasted their offer of layered coffee which came in a variety of flavor. The place was cozy for our team headed by Sir Noor who generously paid the cost of what we consumed. I dare you coffee lovers and coffee enthusiasts, you won't regret visiting Zabadani for in here you will experience tasting coffee that tastes like heaven... ZabadaniLatte Macciato flavored Chocolate Mousse for Ed, while the waiter suggested Cafe Latte for me, flavored White Chocolate Mousse.
